Bienvenidos, argentinos (y argentinófilos) a nuestro grupo!...

Aunque estemos lejos de nuestra tierra, podemos hacer algo para sentirnos mas cerca: juntémonos para conocernos, contar nuestras historias, compartir cosas de nuestra cultura y eventos...y ser amigos!. Y así juntos sobrellevar mejor el síndrome de abstinencia al bife de chorizo! :o))

Somos un grupo de argentinos en New York, jóvenes y de edad media (20-45 años), que se reúne 1 o 2 veces al mes para compartir una comida y/o un evento cultural generalmente relacionado a nuestro país. No somos un grupo con fines de lucro, mas bien somos con fines de locro!... así que una vez que estás acá unite a nosotros y acercate a nuestras reuniones!.

NUESTRO OBJETIVO
Crear una comunidad formada fundamentalmente por argentinos en New York, a fin de no olvidar nuestra cultura, mantenernos más cerca de nuestro país, extrañar menos! y crear lazos entre los miembros a fin de sentirnos cerca aún estando lejos de seres queridos y nuestro país.

Este grupo no tiene medios ni el objetivo de proveer ayuda de ninguna clase a los que aún no se han mudado a New York, o simplemente tienen la intención de venir - por favor no solicitar. Para ser miembro es requisito absolutamente indispensable estar ya viviendo en New York o áreas cercanas. Ver mas abajo.

RESPONDING THE 2 PROFILE QUESTIONS ASKED WHEN YOU APPLY TO BECOME A MEMBER IS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THEM UNANSWERED.

BECOMING A MEMBER is easy and free, it is REQUIRED that:

1) You currently live in New York/NYC area.
If you plan to move to NYC in the near or far future, please apply only AFTER you move here. You will be most welcome!. Please kindly DO NOT apply if you are not living in the New York city area. If you live neighboring states and you could come to New York for an event, that is ok. Temporary visitors to NY (for less than 3 months) will be declined, sorry. People living in Argentina or far from New York can NOT join, as this is a MEETUP group: face to face meetings, not via the internet.

2) You answer in Spanish the "intro" field and each of the 2 questions you will see under the intro field when you apply.
If you do not answer these questions leaving the spaces in blank or answering with something else not being asked; you will be requested to please do so by applying again. You will not be able to join if you ignore the questions.

3) You are either argentinian, direct relative of (spouse, daughter, son) an argentinian OR you lived in Argentina for at least a year
That means, you speak reasonably well argentinian Spanish to keep a conversation with native speakers AND you are reasonably familiar with our culture.

ALL 3 things are required, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Please kindly understand that The New York Argentinians Meetup is NOT a pan-latinamerican group neither exists for that purpose.

THIS IS NOT A GROUP TO COME AND PRACTICE YOUR SPANISH - DO NOT APPLY TO JOIN THIS GROUP IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THAT. Please kindly join The New York Spanish Language Meetup (SLM), an excellent Meetup group that exists for that purpose and has lots of events every month. Sorry, but this group is for native argentinian expatriates and direct relatives of argentinians (spouse, son or daughter) who are familiar with our culture and is definitely not intended to practicing your spanish!. Please kindly understand that a Language group is to practice language, and an expatriate group (like the Argentinians Meetup) is for expatriates, and they are two entirely different groups with different goals.

If you are planning to travel or move to Argentina and/or you are interested in getting more familiar with argentinian culture and/or meet argentinians: Please contact the argentinian consulate in New York and attend meetup groups for travellers. The Spanish Language Meetup group might help you get in touch with argentinians as well. We are deeply sorry but The New York Argentinians Meetup can NOT help you on these needs.

Are you not argentinian but from another latin american country (or from anywhere else), and interested in socializing with/meeting argentinians?
Then please kindly join any of the many meetup and non-meetup groups that are for all latinamericans. They all have argentinian members. The idea is to create here something different: a group of argentinian expatriates in New York. Therefore, this group is exclusively for argentinian expatriates and relatives of argentinians familiar with our culture. Anyone who lived in Argentina for a year or more and speaks/understands argentinian Spanish very well can also join. Sorry, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Right now, this group is currently private and becoming a member requires approval. Please kindly answer in Spanish the 2 simple questions you are asked when you decide to join.

How this group works/What we are:
We meet once or twice a month. MEETINGS ARE ENTIRELY IN SPANISH / NO ENGLISH PLEASE. This is extremely important, as it helps keep the identity of our group. Please kindly respect this during our meetings and be aware of this if you are planning to bring another person with you. Our group has a vast mayority of people in their 20s, 30s and 40s, so our events and venues are chosen accordingly.

MEMBERSHIP COST:
Although becoming and remaining as a member is entirely free, there is a suggested contribution of $2 per event. You can donate via PayPal (find link at top of the "Our Home" page). Funds are entirely used for expenses incurred in organization of events. We greatly appreciate your contribution!.

If you become a member, please RSVP for each event you want to attend and kindly keep your RSVP situation updated. That is easy to do and helps a lot in organizing events. You can come and join us at anytime during our gatherings, no need to arrive at the start of the meeting.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- RSVPs: Your RSVP as YES for an event does not reserve a spot for you, it just tells the organizer you intend to attend - Only advance payment or purchasing your ticket will guarantee you a spot.

- LIABILITIES: Each person attend events at his or her own risk. We are not responsible for any losses of property, any injuries or any form of damage that would affect you or your property during an event. Attending an event means you clearly understand you can not make organizer/s or the group liable for anything.
